A Indigenous Nganyaywana man, Callum Clayton-Dixon, has re-entered Australia from the Solomon Islands on a self-styled Aboriginal passport.
Mr Clayton-Dixon told SBS news service that he was warned if he made any false declarations he may be penalised. “I just kept on insisting I’m an Aboriginal person returning to my country on my Aboriginal passport, and this is the travel document I’m choosing to use,” he said. The Australian government does not recognise Aboriginal passports as a valid travel document but in certain circumstances where a traveller presents at the border without the right travel documents, and customs can determine their Australian citizenship and identity, entry is permissible.
