Getting around Moscow

  • Metro The Moscow metro is cheap, efficient, interesting to look at and easy to use. The downside is that it’s uncomfortably crowded during peak periods.
  • Taxi Well-marked ‘official’ taxi cabs do not roam the streets looking for fares but you can book a taxi using a mobile phone app or an official agency.
  • Walking Distances can be vast, but Moscow is a surprisingly walkable city, especially in the centre. Use the underground crosswalk when crossing busy streets.
  • Bicycle Cycling on the streets is dangerous but it’s a pleasant way to get around if you stick to the cycling routes along the river and in the city parks. Bikes are available from the bike-share program VeloBike and at various rental stations around town.
