Welcome to Baga Gazryn Chuluu Nature Reserve
The spectacular granite-rock formations of Baga Gazryn Chuluu – which translates as 'rocks in a small place' – rise in the middle of the dusty plains, and once sheltered Zanabazar during conflicts between the Khalkh and Oirat Mongols. In the summer, these red rock mountains are dusted with lichen and provide a dramatic contrast against the light-green grasslands and stark blue sky. Lucky visitors may glimpse the odd ibex rambling among the rocks. If you're headed south from Ulaanbaatar this is where the real business of the Gobi begins, and it's quite a gateway.
