If you're a foodie with a thing for kitchens, you may be interested to learn that the French home of late American chef, Julia Child, is available for rent through Airbnb. The three-bedroom house sleeps six and is situated near Chateauneuf-Grasse in Provence, and can be rented for €602 per night.
Julia was born in 1912 and died in 2004, and is credited with bringing French cuisine to the American public with her debut cookbook, Mastering the Art of French Cooking. Her subsequent television programmes, the most notable of which was The French Chef, premiered in 1963. The house was built on the land of her close friends, Simca Beck and Jean Fischbacher, in the mid 1960s, and was christened La Pitchoune - The Little Thing. Julia turned it over to the couple in 1992, two years after her diplomat husband Paul died, and according to the Airbnb listing, it has hosted hundreds of famous food influencers over the years.
It was sold twice and is now owned by American couple, Makenna and Yvonne Johnston, who offer seasonal cooking classes through their cookery school, La Peetch École de Cuisine : Courageous Cooking from the famous kitchen. So famous, in fact, that it has a replica at the Smithsonian Museum. Off-season, the house is available to rent through Airbnb and comes with a swimming pool and yoga space in the grounds.
