This origami-style hammock easily folds up into a backpack

While relaxing by the pool at a luxury hotel may sound like the ideal getaway for many travellers, for others, the joys of taking a trip is all about the freedom to explore, and stepping out into nature to discover something new. With that in mind, a company has released a unique new product for adventurous vacationers and nature-loving wanderers alike, in the form of a high-strength, durable hammock that folds up into a small backpack.

Called the Nomad Hammock, the minimalistic design is inspired by the art of origami, with the lightweight backpack folding out in a few simple steps, allowing users to set up a makeshift campsite in a matter of minutes. Designed to be hung on hooks and trees, the stretchy material of the hammock adapts to the body shape of the person lying in it for maximum comfort. With the ability to hold up to 120 kilos (264 lbs), the hammock is made of water resistant material designed to be rugged in an outdoor environment, and the mesh back and shoulder straps provide ventilation as well as pockets for storing items while on the move.

The idea was created by Daniel Benvenuti and Tiziano Rinaldo, two friends from Belluno in Italy, who launched the Nomad Hammock on Kickstarter this month. “The product has been conceived to facilitate our connection with the present moment in everyday life. When you are using a hammock, you can clear your mind and easily stay in the moment. This should be the deepest essence of travelling and discovering new places in the world,” Tiziano told Lonely Planet Travel News.

As well as housing the makeshift hammock, the bag also has the capacity to hold 20 litres, and comes with a rain cover for protection. The company also said that the product is aimed at furthering the experiences of hikers, camping enthusiasts, surfers, and people living in vans, as well as slack-liners and climbers.

More information on the Nomad Hammock is available on the official website.
