Bonfire Night – or Guy Fawkes Night – marks a failed 17th-century plot to blow up the Houses of Parliament. It is celebrated with burning effigies, standing out in the cold and of course, fireworks. London has a particularly incredible display, and now Booking.com has launched a contest where a lucky winner will be able to watch the show from The Shard, Western Europe’s tallest building.

The guests will get to spend the night on the indoor panoramic viewing platform on the night of Sunday, 5 November – meaning that unlike people around the UK, they will escape the bone-chilling temperatures that often accompany the holiday. When the winner and their guest arrives, they will be greeted with a welcome drink, followed by a three-course dinner that is inspired by Bonfire Night and will be “made with the finest British ingredients.” From there they can head out onto the open-air Skydeck on the 72nd floor, where they can watch the fireworks with a cup of hot chocolate. When the evening is over, the guests will go to sleep in a comfy bed and wake up the next morning to breakfast and amazing views of London.

Anyone interested in the epic experience can enter the competition by detailing in 150 words or less what the night would mean to them. The contest is open to UK and Irish residents until Friday, 20 October. Find out more about the contest here.
