Welcome to Pulau Gaya
For most visitors Gaya's raison d'être is its three diving resorts on the east side of the island, as well as its impressive underwater topography. All three island resorts offer diving courses, and Downbelow has a diving academy on the west side of the island.
The bays on the east end are filled with bustling water villages, inhabited by Filipino immigrants (legal and otherwise) who live in cramped houses built on stilts in the shallow water. Mosques, schools and simple shops are also built on stilts.
