Sublime beaches bring no shortage of tourists to Kassandra; its roads are clogged with Thessaloniki weekenders, Balkan families and Australian backpackers during the summer. But its rippling forested interior is a delight for road trips; mountain-bike tours draw visitors away from the shade of their beach umbrellas; and unfussy thermal baths are an antidote to the resort gloss.
Kallithea is a great base if you want nightlife. Polyhrono is crammed with fast-food places and souvenir stands but has great beaches. Pefkohori is quieter with even more resplendent sands. You'll find the less-busy south coast has more cultural draws, such as snoozy villages and a thermal spa near Loutra.
