Rukuruku village is a 17km drive north of Levuka, up a rough road with fantastic ocean vistas along the way. It’s best to arrange a day out there with Bobo (of Bobo’s Farm) to avoid trespassing on village property. Schoolchildren might sing you a song and old people will share a bowl of kava. Tours are free for houseguests at Bobo’s Farm.
You can walk to a black-sand beach (about 15 minutes), the local waterfall or natural waterslides and there’s a freshwater stream for bathing or prawn catching. Bobo will gladly escort you to all of these and the village. He can also arrange island-hopping, fishing trips and a hike that can meet up with Epi’s Tours. The snorkelling here is wonderful, but you'll need to bring your own kit.
