Welcome to Dingwall
Dingwall is an unremarkable small Highland town, dominated by a hilltop monument to Major-General Sir Hector Archibald MacDonald (better known as 'Fighting Mac'). The son of a local crofter, he rose through the ranks of the British Army to become a hero of the Boer War. Macbeth is believed to have been born at Dingwall Castle, but little of the building remains today except a doocot (dovecote) on Castle St, built from scavenged stones.
The town has plenty of shops and services, including a farmers market held in the attractive pedestrianised High St (on the second Saturday of each month).
