Gopal Pali Prosida Monda Sweet Shop

Bangladesh

Few locals visit the rajbari, but they do all visit this famous sweetshop, which makes the best monda (grainy, sweetened yogurt cake) in the country. Settle back in the tasting room, a delightful faded-yellow room with a handful of polished tables and chairs, where a silver plate with a few tasters of monda will be presented to you for your sensual pleasure.

Two hundred years ago the Pal family cooked these delicious sweetmeats for the zamindar (landowner), who liked them so much that he employed the family. When the landowner’s family left during Partition, the Pal family opened up shop and have been in business ever since.

To find the shop, walk straight ahead as you exit the rajbari, then turn right at the end of the lane and the shop will be on your left. Look for the lion motif over the door. It's one of the most famous sweet shops in Bangladesh, so anyone will be able to direct you.
