Bird Island Lodge

Seychelles

No TV. No air-con. No phones. No pool. Just you, masses of birds, 24 giant turtles, the inky-blue ocean and sensational beaches. Enjoy this slice of untouched paradise in one of the 24 simple yet genuinely ecofriendly and agreeably designed chalets. They rest in a leafy plot, a thong's throw from the beach.

Food is a definite plus, with copious meals using local ingredients and fresh seafood. Activities available include snorkelling, kayaking, shore fishing and dolphin-spotting (between September and November as well as in March and April). You can also join an ecotour of the island with the resident conservationist Robbie Bression – a memorable experience. You'll probably come across Esmeralda, one of the largest tortoises in the world – a 300kg monster of a specimen. All in all, this is one of the most affordable private islands in the Seychelles.
