If you prefer to go camping in comfort – and we definitely couldn’t fault you there as we’re a fan of anything that makes outdoor life easier – a new concept design in the form of a luxury camping pod may just be the holiday home of your dreams.
The sleek pods are the brainchild of Shanghai-based architectural firm, Bitlens Studios, and advertising agency, Anomaly. Their self-initiated project sees the minimalist pods being designed after the new MINI Countryman F60 car. While it is a concept idea and MINI has no intention of manufacturing the pods, they reflect its philosophy and take the car’s compact, round shape.
The award-winning pod features a completely functional living space, kitchen, bedroom and bathroom. It is self-sustainable and covered in weather-resistant material, giving it the ability to withstand many climates. This would make it very useful for anyone contemplating a trip that takes in challenging weather conditions.
Designer Fabian Mazzola told Lonely Planet that although the pods are compact, they include many of the necessary amenities that come with a regular home, including a full-sized bathroom. The living room transforms into a bedroom at night, and the pods contain a large panoramic window so that there is nothing obstructing the view as you camp out or travel along.
Now all we need is for someone to step in and manufacture this fabulous camping pod of dreams, and our days of pitching a tent in the rain and sleeping on a hard groundsheet will be over.
