It’s a well-known truism that every woman is beautiful in her own way. This idea has inspired a photographer from Bucharest, Romania, to spend the last three years travelling the world and showing the diversity of the planet through portraits of women.
Mihaela Noroc (30) quit her job three years ago to pursue her project, called The Atlas of Beauty, which is aimed at capturing the natural beauty of women around the world. She was initially inspired to do this by the diversity she discovered while backpacking in different countries.
Mihaela said that millions of women around the world work hard for their goals and their activities don’t seem that spectacular from the outside. She hopes that by photographing some of them for the project, she can capture their inner and outer beauty and show them how special they are.
“Many people from all around the world face discrimination just because they have a certain colour, religion, ethnicity or because they are women,” she says. “I think beauty is diversity and it can teach us to be more tolerant.”
Mihaela’s images have become hugely popular, and she has 159k followers on Instagram and over 757,000 on Facebook. Her Tumblr blog was the third most viral in 2015 and she appeared on Oprah Winfrey’s Super Soul Sunday. She has visited over 50 countries to date, carrying just her backpack and camera, and aims to continue travelling for many years to capture beauty in all countries of the globe.
