An online travel company has launched in the UK, and it aims to bring spontaneity and excitement to the way its customers travel. Travellers with srprs.me simply choose between a city break or backpacking adventure, indicate their budget and pick their dates. Prior to travel they receive a weather forecast for packing purposes, but only discover their destination when they reveal a special code on a scratchcard at the airport departure lounge.
“We created srprs.me to bring the fun back to travel and inspire people to embrace the unknown,” says CEO, Raymond Klompsma. “We want to set people’s hearts racing and help them do away with the researching, reasoning and rationalising that can drain the magic from seeing the world. Ultimately, people will go wherever they’re meant to go and we’ll help them get there.”
srprs.me has already sent over 50,000 people on city breaks and backpacking adventures since it was founded in Amsterdam in 2014. Now that it has launched in the UK, one of its first customers was Conor Riches.
“Needing a holiday but without the energy to organise people, book flights, and find hotels – and with no desire to pay a generic travel agency for a generic holiday to a generic destination – I felt stuck,” he says. “By chance, a family member suggested srprs.me, and I investigated.”
Having decided to take a leap of faith and trust the decision to the company, Conor discovered at Manchester Airport that he was off to Berlin, much to his delight. While there, he enjoyed meeting people and walking around the city, and he saw pop up art exhibitions, sports competitions in the streets and mini markets, he also fed his interest in architecture.
“I’d subscribed to surprise and made sure this adventure wasn’t going to be generic,” he says. “I went out by myself. I met people. I pushed my boundaries. It was scary and liberating. I don’t think I’d have had that chance ordinarily.”
srprs.me’s city break destinations currently cover all of Europe, while the backpacking destinations extend worldwide, with destinations selected according to trip duration and budget. Those who trust in the company to make decisions on their behalf may find their sense of adventure has been sharpened.
“I came back from my surprise holiday glowing,” says Conor Riches. “I hadn’t followed the crowd and by placing trust in myself and others I’d come back more confident and completely refreshed.”
