Long hair now grounds for arrest in the Maldives

A criminal in the Maldives has been released on remand on the condition that he keeps his hair neatly trimmed.

The young male offender, who was arrested for assault, has been warned that failure to maintain a ‘nice and short’ haircut will result in immediate arrest. This is just the latest in a string of bizarre rulings that have been cited by opposition politicians as evidence that the judiciary, which is staunchly supported by the ruling party, is operating beyond the bounds of international law.
