This travel budget calculator will help you find your perfect destination
A new calculation website has been launched that aims to help travellers estimate the best places to visit around the world according to their specific budget and set of needs.
The Earth Awaits is a free online tool that allows users to input their desired monthly budget and correlates it with other factors such as desired lifestyle, crime rate, pollution, and the desired part of the world that they wish to visit. It then calculates a list of possibilities, providing information on things like weather by month and different types of accommodation. The tool even has advanced options for people to search for destinations according to primary language, minimum quality of life and racial discrimination figures. Following the results, the website links the user to further reading options about their chosen destination.
The site was created by a husband and wife team from the San Francisco Bay Area that met through a mutual love of travel. Having visited a range of exotic places throughout the years, they learned how far a budget can go in different destinations. “I began working on The Earth Awaits after having a conversation with my Father-in-law about his retirement fund. He mentioned that his savings would allow him to spend a little over $2000 per month and my mind immediately exploded with all the locations around the world where that amount of money would allow for a spectacular lifestyle,” The Earth Awaits creator Robert told Lonely Planet News.
Following that initial conversation, The Earth Awaits was created, soon evolving into a handy tool to help people all over the world plan their next trip. It uses information from reliable sources such as Numbeo, the United Nations, Freedom House and GeoNames to pull together its suggestion. The website is aimed at long-term travellers, students taking a gap year, retirees and anyone looking for a short getaway.
“I announced the site and it has taken off like wildfire, showing just how many people in the world long for an adventure abroad,” said Robert. To calculate your next trip, you can check out the handy tool at The Earth Awaits website.
