
Scientists in Kazakhstan have found an explanation for why residents of the village of Kalachi have been mysteriously falling asleep. Since 2014, villagers have been complaining of a syndrome where they fall asleep without explanation, sometimes for days on end. A cat in the village was also affected by the syndrome. Scientists have discovered that an excess of carbon monoxide (CO) and hydrocarbon (CH) in the air and soil from a local mine, combined with a lack of oxygen, could cause the condition. Because of the problem, 150 villagers have been resettled to other parts of the country, while 240 are on a waiting list to be moved. Read more: tengrinews.kz
