A new pet-centric hotel and general store has opened in Kanab, Utah that offers comfortable rooms specifically designed to cater to travelers and their four-legged friends. Created by a local animal society, all of the money generated at the hotel will go back to supporting animals in need.
Best Friends Roadhouse and Mercantile has 30 regular rooms, eight suites and two two-level suites, while the mercantile building has a reception, a common area for guests, a complimentary vegan continental breakfast bar, and a retail area that includes Best Friends and Roadhouse branded merchandise. Operated by Best Friends Animal Society, the new property provides complimentary shuttle transportation to and from the nearby sanctuary.
The hotel has been kitted out with pet-friendly features such as rooms outfitted with durable fabrics and materials, two-door entry systems for safety, room furnishings built high off the ground to avoid pet entrapment or accidents, sleeping areas featuring pet mattresses, as well as complimentary pet washing stations and a fenced-in park with a water feature. Pet walking and pet sitting services are also available upon request.

Two rooms have been specially designed to accommodate cats, featuring a window perch for lounging, cat proof blinds and curtains, high hanging light fixtures and a litterbox under the bathroom vanity. Each room is named for a Best Friends animal alumnus, while the artwork shows a featured animal and a plaque telling their story. One room has also been designed as pet-free for those with allergies, while two rooms cater for disabled travelers.
Room rates are seasonal and range from $109-$309 per night.
