Lonely Planet review for Lama Temple
Ornately decorated, the Lama Temple is one of Běijīng's most popular places of worship. Emperor Yongzheng once lived here; now it is home to mostly Mongolian monks who follow the Yellow Hat sect of Tibetan Buddhism. Don’t miss Wanfu Pavilion, the final hall, which contains an 18m-high statue of the Maitreya Buddha, supposedly sculpted from a single block of sandalwood. An audio-guide to the pavilion is Y20.
