Opened in 2006 to much acclaim, the Capital Museum has raised the bar for every cultural institution in town, thanks to both its thoughtful presentation of some very impressive exhibits and the showcase building housing them. The galleries track the evolution of Beijing, as well as highlighting major Chinese cultural achievements. There are displays of porcelain, jade and Buddhist statues, but be sure to visit the fascinating gallery devoted to Beijing folk customs. An audio-guide is Y30 with a Y100 deposit.
