One of the few freebies in Beijing is the chance to see the pickled body of the Great Helmsman. Reverent domestic tourists file past in their droves, so no snickering. Occasional mummy maintenance means Mao’s body isn’t always here. The compulsory bag check (up to Y10) is across the street.
