Lonely Planet review for Cronulla
Cronulla is a beachy surf suburb south of Botany Bay, it’s looong surf beach stretching beyond the dunes to the Botany Bay refineries. It’s an edgy place, with dingy fish-and-chip shops, insomnious teens and a ragged sense of impending ‘something’, which in 2005 erupted into racial violence. The ’70s cult novel Puberty Blues captured the local teen scene.

Awesome beach and dunes, great spot for surfers and kiters.
downhilljill recommends this,
From the main town you could arrive at the beach and head north for a long beach ramble toward Botany Bay, or a lovely seawall stroll to the south, each several kilometers long. Fun cafes and shops in town, easy access to Sydney via train. Saw some dolphins one morning frolicking in the surf while running hte seawall. Wish I'd had a bicycle to ride up and down the coast.
