Getting there & around
To reach Charleston by car from the north coast or south coast, use Hwy 17. From I-95, take I-26 southeast for about an hour to Charleston.
Charleston International Airport (843-767-7009) is 12 miles outside of town in North Charleston, with 63 daily flights to 17 destinations.
The Greyhound station (843-744-4247; 3610 Dorchester Rd) has regular buses to Atlanta ($63, eight hours), Savannah ($29, 2½ hours) and Myrtle Beach ($28, 2½ hours).
The Amtrak train station (843-744-8264; 4565 Gaynor Ave) is an inconvenient 8 miles north of downtown.
Downtown Area Shuttle (DASH; 843-724-7420; adult single/day pass $1/3) has faux streetcars doing four loop routes from the visitor center.
