Lonely Planet review
The first 'road' in Palm Beach ran along the Intracoastal Waterway, and provided a five-mile paved path stretching from Worth Ave (in the south) to Indian Rd (in the north) for Flagler's hotel guests to stretch their legs and scope out the social scene. Nicknamed 'The Trail of Conspicuous Consumption,' it is sandwiched between two amazing views: Lake Worth lagoon to the west, and an unending series of mansions to the east.
To get here from Worth Ave, walk west to S Lake Dr and follow the path north to the Sailfish Club. For an abbreviated version, park in the metered lot off Royal Palm Way (or in the supermarket's lot on Sunset Ave) and head west to pick up the trail. Another nice stretch runs along N County Rd. Park on Sunset Ave and head north on the path running to Palm Beach Country Club. At just under 2 miles, the route is lined with houses and magnificent trees and there are plenty of exotic side streets to explore.
If bike rentals are not available at your hotel, head to Palm Beach Bike Shop . There’s a 10 mph speed limit on the trail.
