Santa Barbara Getting there & around

Getting there & away

Santa Barbara Municipal Airport (SBA; 805-967-7111; 500 Fowler Rd), in Goleta some 8 miles west of downtown off Hwy 101, is a little gem with a beautiful, albeit slightly cramped design. American Eagle (Los Angeles), America West Express (Phoenix) and United Express (Denver, LA and San Francisco) are among the carriers with service. All major car-rental firms are here.

Santa Barbara Airbus (805-964-7759, 800-423-1618; www.santabarbaraairbus.com) shuttles between Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) and Santa Barbara (one way from $42, 2½ to three hours, 14 per day).

Greyhound (805-965-7551; 34 W Carrillo St) has up to nine daily buses to Los Angeles ($12, 2¼ to three hours) and up to five to San Francisco ($32, 7½ to nine hours), making stops along Hwy 101.

Amtrak (209 State St) operates from a beautifully restored station. Santa Barbara is a stop on the daily Seattle-LA Coast Starlight. It is the terminus for most of the frequent Pacific Surfliner regional trains to LA ($21, 2½ to three hours). One also goes north to San Luis Obispo ($22) and there are Amtrak buses north as well along Hwy 101 to San Jose.
