  1. Bangkok with children – part 3

Blog: Oh, the places you'll go! - 27 October 2009

While Thewet is probably the most kid-friendly part of Bangkok, and Banglampu has the best family-friendly budget accommodation, we also had fun staying off Sukumvit Road and exploring the downtown attractions with Tash on our last visit to Bangkok in January 2009. We stayed at the Federal Hotel in Sukumvit Soi 11, which has been around forever [...]

  2. Bangkok with children – Part 2

Blog: Oh, the places you'll go! - 20 October 2009

Responding to a recent inquiry about kid-friendly places to stay in Bangkok made me realise I didn’t have a post on this site about Banglampu. This part of ‘old Bangkok’ on the arc of the Chao Phraya River is well known as a backpacker desination–Khao San Road is situated there–but it’s also a good budget [...]

  7. Here’s A Quick Way To Spice Up Your Travels

    Blog: GoBackpacking - 31 August 2009

When I was a kid, I remember being in my best friend’s kitchen as he suckled a bottle of Tabasco sauce for sheer pleasure.  I assumed he could inherently handle it because he was Asian, and I wasn’t.  In reality, the reason had to do with the differing cultural environments in which we were brought [...]Your Free Subscriber Download

  9. When East Meets West, Bangkok Is What It Should Look Like

    Blog: EZGuler - 20 August 2009

We are in the first hour of our 15-hour train ride from Bangkok to Chiang Mai. This is an express train yet we haven't "expressed" our way very far since we have traveled a total of 15 minutes in a whole hour and we were only going 20 kilometers per hour. We are currently waiting at a station and have been for the last 20 minutes. Who are we waiting for? Perhaps a monk to arrive, who wants to catch a ride back to Chiang Mai after his long weekend in celebration of Buddha Day.

It was another early start today. Using the Nancy Chandlers map as a guide. It was a quick walk from the New Siam Guest House to the river crossing at pier number 11, and a ride on a water taxi over to Bangkok Noi Station, also known as Thonburi Station. We arrived in plenty of time and got our 4 tickets to Kanchanaburi. They cost £2.00 for four.

Blog: Midwife Moira's Travel Blog. With Emirates Cabin Crew on the side. - 20 May 2009

It is very unusual for us to go on organised tours, we normally sort out our own tours using books like the Lonely Planet, Rough Guide ect. We had been very lazy and booked a tour with 'River King' at a desk located in our accommodation, my main motivation for this was that I was assured that the tour included a fantastic lunch, the plan was to drive to Ayuthaya then come back to Bangkok on the river.

  18. Thailand Day One. Bangkok.

Blog: Midwife Moira's Travel Blog. With Emirates Cabin Crew on the side. - 20 May 2009

Because of time differences, We were tired on arriving at the Guest house. Due to the flights arriving so early, we were to early to check in. But we were able to leave our cases at the accommodation. We walked down the road and got breakfast at one of the many restaurants located in the area. Andy, Sarah and I have been to Bangkok before, as a three day stop over on our way to Australia. Rebecca has been a few times with work. So we have visited a few of the main sights. During breakfast I consulted the Lonely Planet and drew up a short list of things we wanted to do.

  19. Back in Bangkok

    Blog: Nomadic Matt's Travel Site - 8 May 2009

I’m back in Bangkok. I’ve been here two weeks and, despite my desire to be productive, it hasn’t happened. At least, not to the extent in which I wanted it too. I made the mistake of staying right near the world’s best and most popular hang out in Bangkok (at least for my friends)- [...]

We hadn't been in Thailand for 10 minutes before we got scammed. We were in the airport and I had just gotten some money out of the ATM. We needed to get to a cheap hotel called "D&D Inn" which was recommended to me by my buddy Ben from Brisbane, Australia.

  21. Bangkok with mother and child

Blog: Oh, the places you'll go! - 24 October 2008

This time last week, I was anxiously watching developments in the border dispute between Thailand and Cambodia for the most selfish of reasons: Tash and I were due to fly to Bangkok to meet up with my mum. If hostilities worsened, worst-case scenario, our flight would be cancelled. Or we’d make it to Bangkok and [...]
