Getting there & away

There are daily flights linking Zanzibar and Pemba with Dar es Salaam, Tanga, Arusha and the northern safari circuit airstrips and Selous Game Reserve. Ferries link Zanzibar with Dar es Salaam daily, and with Pemba several times weekly. Once on Zanzibar, taxi and motorbike hire is quite affordable, and networks of cheap and crowded dalla-dallas or faster and pricier private minibuses cover the island.

A Tanzanian visa is required to visit Zanzibar; there are no separate visa requirements for the archipelago, but you may be required to complete separate arrival forms.
