Introducing Northern Senegal

Northern Senegal reaches along the coast from the capital Dakar, to the border with Mauritania. At the mouth of the Senegal River you'll find Saint-Louis, western Africa's oldest French settlement. The Unesco World heritage listed old part of the city, located on an island in the middle of the river, is a showcase of colonial architecture. Bird lovers will be in raptures in this part of the country; just south of Saint-Louis is the Parc National de la Langue Barberie, and to the northeast is the huge World Heritage listed Parc National des Oiseaux du Djoudj. A pirogue tour under skies alive with flamingos, pelicans, purple herons and spoonbills won't be easily forgotten.
