Dangers & annoyances
While Porto is generally quite safe, it’s worth exercising caution after dark on the side streets of the Ribeira district as well as in the area between the São Bento Station and the cathedral.
Before jumping into the sea at Foz do Douro, ask around about current conditions –pollution has been a problem in the past and doubts have been cast on recent claims of purity. If you have qualms, head to Vila do Conde (26km to the north).
