Has anyone made the Mae Sot (Thailand) to Myanmar border crossing in the last few days? I picked up my Myanmar visa from the consulate in Chang Mai yesterday and was advised by the official to fly in rather than go over land. He said that there has been shootings at the border and they can't guarantee it will be open. Understandably, I'm feeling a bit a wary now but I'm on a tight budget and can't spend the 4k baht on a flight. Also, my Thai visa runs out on the 4th so I'm running a bit…
Anyone done this trip recently? Just wondering what to expect in terms of punctuality and ease of buying a ticket. And any recommendations of somewhere to stay in Thazi? We will probably be travelling Boxing Day if this makes a difference.
does anyone know of any diving of the myeik archipelago that operates from myanmar?
i don't really want to have to leave myanmar to go diving in myanmar and then go back in to catch my return flight home....
even if it's just companies that are able to pick people up in myanmar on their way from thailand.
any experience/ advice much appreciated
Across the river from Tamu in western Burma lies the NE Indian state of Manipur. Have just concluded a week here in Imphal the capital city, enjoying the Sangai Festival and visits to surrounding areas. Quite dissimilar to other areas of "mainland" India, the people remind me so much of the kind, generous and hospitable people of Burma. Do come to Manipur and enjoy their good nature. I especially can recommend Hotel Yaiphaba opposite the H. Nirmala. Good facilities and an excellent staff.
Has anyone stayed at any of the guesthouses in the Mt. Popa area? Lonely Planet says there are a couple but does not discuss them at all, only the resort. Just wondering what they are like and if any contact info.
been to Thailand, Vietnam and Cambodia. I am from India. Never been to Burma..interested in cities, temples, food, the countryside...most of all I love observing people and their different and not so different customs. If i make a trip for 10 days what should I cover? I am a Burma novice.
Any pointers will be greatly appreciated...cheers! Manythanks.
I am guessing it is not as easy to find good options at a mid to lower price range, as is the case in other SEA countries? What are the must…
Hey guys I'm looking to do a 10 day vipassana retreat in Mandalay and was wondering if anyone had any recommendations on a specific center since there seems to be a few in that area. Any suggestions would be much appreciated, thank you!!
