Hi! I am currently in Antananarivo for work. Arrived on Tuesday and leave on Saturday. My colleague who has been here before told me there is a low risk of Malaria so there is no need for meds. I stupidly listened to her and didn't arrange the meds before coming. Now I'm here and I've been bitten 3 times, all on the same foot (I assume by mosquitos) and I'm very paranoid about Malaria to the point where I can't sleep. I'm kicking myself that I didn't do the reasesrch. The trip was rushed. I was…
Just curious if anyone recently has/has info on getting to Madagascar from Tanzania/Zanzibar by sea?
I'd read about the potential of getting across via cargo ship but this is from the 2010 LP and I'm wondering if that's still possible?
Planning my itinerary for a late-July through early-August trip. Have decided we likely want to spend some time in the Tulear area, and trying to decide between staying in Anakao or Ifaty. It seems to me Ifaty might be more accessible, but also more popular (crowded?). It is myself and my two adult daughters, one of which is currently living in Mada as a Peace Corps Volunteer, so we have somebody with us that possesses some language skills (my other adult daughter speaks a little French as…
I will be in madagascar from 8/6 to 22/6.
Just because of the limit of vacation duration, I think taking Taxi Brousse will make my travel difficult and would like to get ppl to share a car with guide. (Or maybe only the transportation).
Preliminary, the itin is as follows -
Antsirabe and Lake Tritriva
Isalo NP (Maybe too far? can be put aside)
Morondava (baobab trees)
Tsingy de Bemaraha
The itin is flexible and we can further discuss if you are…
Can anyone advise me on the best place to change money in Tana? The place I used in the past, near the train station, would probably be my first option but I could avoid Tana altogether if I changed more money at the airport. How do the airport bureau rates differ from those in town? Any info gratefully accepted.
Hi, With only 12 days I'm now considering whether i should
1) take the RN7 south as far as Isalo NP then back to Tana, Or
2) only go down as far as Ranomafana NP then back to Tana and then trip to Andasibe NP and back.
I'm probably more interested in seeing wildlife than canyons and i'm assuming that both options are not possible. Also 2) might be possible via public transport. Any opinions on Andasibe Vs Isalo?
I have been warned that camping in NP d'Isalo is not advisable and unsafe. Can anyone (dis)confirm this based on recent experience?
The same was stated about Andohahela. Any experiences? Can anyone recommend accommodation near the park?
I am looking for offers to hire a 4WD vehicle from Tulear to Ambalavao (drop-off) April 28 - May 4 or 5 exploring possibly Ifaty, Zombitse, Isalo, Andringitra (going INTO the Parks) possibly continuing to Tana after this.
Has anybody recent experiences (positive or negative) with car rental services in Tulear?
Hi, On the route RN7 south i'm looking to try only going as far as necessary and not sure theres much at Tulear to see and thinking of only going as far as Fianarantsoa.
I have read that Fianarantsoa is the gate to the Isalo National Park and the Ranomafana national park - is this the case? how is easy is it to see these two parks from Fianarantsoa?
Is there much to see beyond Fianarantsoa? Lonely Planet itinerary only suggests 'arboretum d'antsokay'
