Hi,
I'm going to Vilnius for a long weekend in July. Would like to do some kind of activity. trekking, hiking, water sport etc.

Are any of these possible within an hour or so of Vilnius?
Thank you

Kaunas

A few trains (nicer option) to Kaunas depart during the day from Vilnius, not for sure every hour as my guidebook suggests.Buses depart every 15 minutes.

The bus station in Kaunas has been relocated to the temporary bus stands on Gedimino x Griunvaldo streets whilst the new bus station is being built on the site of the old one. BTW, ignore the advice of the ticket counter staff (in the foyer of Acropolis next door) that the bus ticket can be purchased on board; insist on getting the ticket from…

Tarkai Castle

Easily visited as a half day trip from Vilnius. There are only four train departures per day, but there's far more frequent bus service with buses and marshrutkas departing every 45-60 mins.

The above is an extract from my travel journals. Oct 2015

I did it on my way from Riga to Vilnius. Shilai in LV or Shialuai in LT is only 1.5 hrs on a bus from Riga. It's possible to wait for other tourists at Shialuai bus station and share the taxi ride to the hill. The taxi per person should not be more than EUR10 and that includes the return ride and up to an hour waiting time; I would pay EUR25 max for the ride if there wasn't anyone to share the costs with. Buses from Shialuai to Vilnius depart every 1-1.5 hrs and this bus ride was 3 hrs long, too…

We are planning our second trip through Baltic countries with the campervan and would like to get as many tips and advises as possible. We traveled through Baltic States last year and spend some nice 2 weeks on the road with the rented campervan. We already saw a lot, but there is still a lot to explore. Even just to enjoy a wild nature would be good enough, because prices are very low in these countries. I would like to know your experiences from traveling in Lithuania Estonia and Latvia with…

I'm cycling the Baltic and not sure if I'll be able to get a Russian visa. Do you know if I can take my bike on the train? I've had some trouble with trains in Italy before and don't want to get stuck. Thanks!!

Short stay

I'm currently planning my vocation am I am planning to stop by in Lithuania.
I was wondering, if I visit Latvia for 3 days, is that enough to enjoy my stay in Vilnius or should I stay longer or shorter? Can I get around and enjoy everything Vilnius has to offer in 2-3 days?

Is it possible for me to meet someone, a local, and tour me around during my short stay? I'm willing to pay food while we tour around with him/her. Are the locals friendly to tourists?

Hi all - I'm heading to Lithuania for six weeks for work, and as you can guess I've got some questions...

How expensive is it on a daily basis? How does Vilnius compare to New York or LA in average expense?

I'm going in April - not ideal I'm sure. What are the best things to see and do on weekends?

How accessible are other countries like Poland or Finland? Is Helsinki a feasible weekend trip?

Anything else I should know (or ask about?) My lodging is covered by my company, so thats not a…

Oldtown

Hi

Sorry I haven't done much research as this is a last minute idea. Any suggestions on the best old towns between Vilnius, Riga and Tallin, and how much time to spend in each

Cheers
