You’ll barely be able to walk 10 yards without spotting an ATM in Beirut, most of which dispense both US dollars and Lebanese lira. If you’re looking for moneychangers, there are plenty dotted all along Rue Hamra.
Amex(977 800) If your Amex card is lost, stolen or damaged while in Lebanon, call the American Express representative office who’ll give you details of how to replace it.
Amir Exchange(341 265; Rue Hamra, Hamra; 8am-8pm Mon-Sat) One of the few places you can change travellers’ cheques, preferably in US$, it charges US$2 to US$3 per US$100. Bring your passport and original purchaser’s receipt.
Sogetour (747 111; Ground fl, Block A, Gefinor Center, Rue Maamari, Hamra; 8.30am-4pm Mon-Fri, 8.30am-1pm Sat) The best place in Beirut to exchange Amex travellers cheques in US dollars. It charges a 2% commission.
