Best thing to do in the southern Hiroshima-ken is get the bus south out of industrial Fukayama and take it easy in the fishing port of Tomo-no-ura. It's a great spot to just relax or maybe take a ferry out to Sensui-jima island and get some sea air into your lungs. To the east is the surprisingly cultured factory town of Onomichi where you can ride a dizzying cable-car to the lovely Senkō-ji, one of the temples on the Buddhist pilgrimage trail that winds through this part of Honshū.
