Introducing Miyazaki-ken
Rte 222 from Miyakonojō to Obi and Nichinan on the coast is a superb road, twisting and winding over the hills along the sea. Although there is train and bus service, renting a car to explore this rugged coastline south of Miyazaki will allow you greater freedom.

In July and August anywhere coastal in Japan other than Hokkaido feels tropical because of the heat. Izu peninsula a couple of hours out…
