Vernazza in Cinque Terre, Italy is hit by a devastating flood: Videos of the disaster

Most of my viewers know that I lived in Italy for 3 years and traveled there for 20 and still have an ongoing love affair with the country. One place that I kept going back to year after year since 1979 is Cinque Terre and my favorite town was Vernazza. No doubt you’ve seen the [...]

Need to Know Facts About Cinque Terre and the Italian Riviera for Families
Blog: Ciao Bambino! - 27 July 2011
If you've been to the Italian Riviera between June and August, this scene looks familiar. For some families, this rocky stretch of coastline in Liguria is the ultimate summer holiday destination. In fact, questions about visiting Italian beaches with kids in the summertime comes up more often than almost any other topic on Ciao Bambino. Given this, I thought it would be fun to showcase some recent family vacation photos, as well as need to know tips for visiting this area.

All the Italian cities are unique
Blog: nateniale { reflections on my travels and everything else I love } - 22 May 2011
Managed to go to quite a number of cities around Italy, and like one of the owner of the Bed and Breakfast we stayed in said "There are three Italy - the Northern Italy, the Southern Italy and the middle one". I fully agreed! All the cities that we went to were very different - it felt like we were in different countries! And most of the time, the traffic best described the mood of the city. Venice

Our Favorite Town in Cinque Terre
Blog: Vagabond3 - 19 May 2011
Bob and I aren’t very couple-y. At least that is what our friends have told us. Apparently, it’s easy to hang out with us because we aren’t “hanging all over each other” like other couples we see. And, I guess that is true to some degree. I just don’t feel the need to gush or call him baby because he knows that already. However, all this fell by the wayside when we...

RTW Day 34: Riomaggiore
Blog: Vagabond3 - 15 July 2010
After walking through all five of the towns that make up Cinque Terre yesterday, today we explored the town in which we are staying. Riomaggiore is the most Southern of the Cinque Terre towns and is right on the sea. We spent the day laying out, hiking, and swimming. www.youtube.com/watch?v=XAoqvOKCoVM This video is part of [...]

RTW Day 33: Cinque Terre
Blog: Vagabond3 - 14 July 2010
Hiking the entire length of Cinque Terre is not exactly what we thought it would be. As the hills took us up and away from the seashore, flip-flops seemed like less of a good idea for the hike. We also learned today that we have no idea how to pronounce the names of the Cinque [...]

Rediscovering Italy
Blog: Nomadic Matt's Travel Site - 15 June 2010
I first came to Italy in 2006. It was one of the first stops on my just began round the world adventure. Italy was everything I thought it would be and more. If there was a country that lived up to the hype, it was Italy. Backpacking around Italy, I spent most of my time in [...]

Cinque Terre’s Five Villages Hike
Blog: Canada's Adventure Couple - 8 June 2010
One of the most scenic hikes a person can do in Italy is the Five Villages Hike along the Mediterranean region of Cinque Terre. We had heard about this hike in France and when we found ourselves on the French Riviera a mere 3-hours from Cinque Terre we had to hop in our rented Nissan Micra and make our way to this spectacular region. We awoke early to start our 5 hour hike through the Five Villages. The trail winds its way along the Italian Riviera's Mediterraneans coast between the Five Villages.

A Detour to Italy’s Riviera. A Treat for the Taste Buds
Blog: Canada's Adventure Couple - 7 June 2010
We couldn't waste any more time relaxing on the beach and we had to get ourselves to the Cinque Terra in Italy. It is a beautiful piece of the Mediterranean where one can walk and hike along a gorgeous path on the coast. The minute we entered Italy we fell in love with it.

Riomaggiore Wishes You Were Here
Blog: Suzy Guese - 7 May 2010
While I tend to downplay Cinque Terre, known as the five towns in Italy strung out on the Liguria coastline, their beauty is undeniable. Sure, I might appreciate the area more without all of the crowds, but this view is something crowds can’t wreck or ruin. My grumpy nature for these five towns may have something [...]

The Saturday City: The Cinque Terre
Blog: Nomadic Matt's Travel Site - 9 January 2010
The Cinque Terre consists of five beautiful hillside towns (Riomaggiore, Manarola, Corniglia, Vernazza, Monterosso) on the west coast of Italy. They are famous for being historic and, well, beautiful. Not just “This place is beautiful” beautiful but more like “I died and gone to heaven and never want to leave” beautiful. I visited here [...]

Vernazza, Italy
Blog: Patrick and Katrina do the Globe - 24 July 2009
Our most recent stop, Vernazza, is a small village on the Mediterranean coast of Italy. So small in fact that upon arrival we were told to check in at a local wine shop so they could telephone the owners of our inn, Giuliano and Michele, to show us the way to their place. Thus began our Cinque Terre adventure, waiting amidst limoncino (a local specialty) and wine bottles to meet our new hosts, and then to be led along a winding pathway up the hillside to reach Camere Giuliano. This home base became so much more than just a place to sleep at night during our stay.

Molto Bene (Part Due: The Search for the perfect Spiaggia)
Blog: Bec and John in the UK - 26 November 2008
After such an idyllic first day, we could probably be excused for thinking we would enjoy similar splendor on each subsequent day in "The Cinq". Unfortunately, though, our luck was about to run out. We woke the next day to a grey sky, a light, constant drizzle, and the discovery that there really isn't all that much to do in the Cinque Terre when it rains. There's eating, of course, but believe it or not, there is actually a limit to how many trattorias, ristorantes and pizzerias you can handle in one day!

Molto Bene (Part Uno)
Blog: Bec and John in the UK - 15 November 2008
It occurred to us early this year that despite having lived in Europe for ages, we hadn't been to Italy since 2003, when we whipped through as part of a breakneck European tour. We loved Italy then, and wanted to make sure they hadn't broken it since. When Stu confirmed that he'd be visiting again for another Euro-summer (you may remember him from such blogs as Glastonbury last year), with his new lady-friend Mandy, it was a perfect opportunity.

The Great Summer Adventure – Croatia, Italy and Monaco
Blog: MatthewGain.com - 17 July 2008
Well the tan may be fading – let’s face it what hope does a ginger have getting a true tan anyways – but the looking back at the pics makes me still feel like I am still there – handy given the shitty summer weather. Below are some of the top memories and great pictures. Trip details – Landed in Dubrovnik Croatia on 28 July and travelled north up the Adriatic Coast through Split, Hvar Island, Zadar, Rab Island and Opatija, before getting a ferry to Venice, Italy. From Venice we travelled by train to Cinque Terre and down to Monaco where I celebrated my birthday.
