Lonely Planet review for Imam Mosque

The Imam Mosque is one of the most beautiful mosques in the world. The richness of its blue-tiled mosaic designs and its perfectly proportioned Safavid-era architecture form a visually stunning monument to the imagination of Shah Abbas I and the ability of his architect. The sumptuous decoration of the mosque perfectly complements the architectural elegance.

    Islamic architecture at its peak

    katmar33 recommends this,

Visiting the collection of majestic tiled buildings that form Imam Square was an absolute lifetime highlight. Why? Well it is really hard to put into words.... so check out my photos!

My advice would be to spend plenty of time around the square. The colours of the blue and gold tiles that cover all the buildings of the square change as the daylight fades and the gold deepens as the sun goes down.

One of the best ways to enjoy this view is sitting in the open air, atop the Imam square bazaar, sipping tea in the Qeysarieh Tea Shop - it is not too tragic to say you really do feel on top of the world.
