Lonely Planet review for Sunda Kelapa

A kilometre north of Taman Fatahillah, the old port of Sunda Kelapa is full of magnificent Makassar schooners (pinisi). The dock scene here has barely changed for centuries, and porters unload cargo from these sailing ships by hand and trolley. Sadly, the port itself is rundown and its waters grotesquely polluted these days.

    A must see!

    Have a free day in Jakarta? Don't miss the opportunity to visit this unique harbour with its majestic wood sail boats. With a good light the lined white boats and its masts are a must take picture. It's probably about the only thing that remains running almost unchanged since the Dutch protectorate.
