Getting there & away
Five daily buses go to Szerencs (484Ft, one hour, 36km), the chocolate capital of Hungary, but it's just as easy to get there by train. There's two buses daily to Debrecen (1030Ft, two hours, 85km) and Nyíregyháza (423Ft, 45 minutes, 31km).
Up to 16 trains a day connect Tokaj with Nyíregyháza (346Ft, 30 minutes, 32km) and some 16 with Miskolc (544Ft, one hour, 56km); you'll need to change trains at the former for Debrecen (890Ft, two hours, 81km). If you want to travel north to Sárospatak (430Ft, one to two hours, 44km) and Sátoraljaújhely (544Ft, two hours, 54km), catch the Miskolc-bound train and change at Mezőzombor.
