San Pedro Sula

Getting there & away

San Pedro Sula is a land transportation hub, connecting the north coast to western and southern Honduras. However, if you’re not planning to stop, you can sometimes save time by transferring buses at El Progreso instead of going into San Pedro proper.

The city built an enormous Terminal Metropolitana de Autobuses (Metropolitan Bus Terminal; 5km south of town) that was designed to bring all the bus lines under a single roof and relieve some of the traffic congestion in town. The opening has been continually delayed, however, and travelers still use the slew of individual bus lots, distributed mostly south and east of downtown.

The free tourist magazine Honduras Tips has a very helpful section on bus routes around the country.

You can get additional bus information in Honduras Tips, or by calling individual bus lines during working hours.
