While most of Accra's oceanfront real estate is rocky and undeveloped, there are several sandy beaches. La Pleasure Beach, also known as Labadi Beach, is about 8km east of central Accra and easily reached by public transport. Unfortunately since the swimming area is so narrow it's a little claustrophobic on weekends.

Lovely beach teaming with people having fun

I'd been in Ghana for four whole days before i'd seen the beach so I was itching to get my feet in the sea. Got to La Pleasure late afternoon by tro-tro, paid 3GHC to get in and the seafront was buzzing with people, music and bars. You might be suprised at how cold the sea is but you'll get used to it cause everyone else has - families, teens, twenty somethings were all splashing about having a great time. Gorgeous atmosphere as the sun was begining to set with the music playing and the waves lapping in the background, felt very romantic and you feel so glad to be in Ghana...Then the mosquitos arrived in brute force at dusk so be warned - when the sun starts setting you need to get jetting! Will certainly be back.
