Lonely Planet review for Rathaus

Hamburg's baroque Rathaus is one of Europe's most opulent, renowned for the Emperor's Hall and the Great Hall, with its spectacular coffered ceiling. There are no fewer than 647 rooms here, but the guided 40-minute tours only take in a small number.

    Hamburg City Hall

    shlomorosnethal recommends this,

Hamburg has never had a king or queen. It was always a republic - until they joined Germany in the 19th century. Unlike in other German cities the City Hall is the center of town - and not the church or royal palace. There are tours available - and they are very interesting. They also have tours in English. The city hall is home of the Hamburg parliament and the Hamburg senate ( government).

Next to the city hall is the Hamburg stock exchange.
