Coventry Sights

  1. Coventry Transport Museum

This extensive museum shows off the city's turbo-charged car-manufacturing past. It boasts the largest collection of British-built vehicles in the world, most of them assembled in Coventry. They range from early bicycles to the slightly zippier Thrust2 and ThrustSSC, the fastest land vehicles ever. Enjoy, speed freaks!

  2. St Mary's Guildhall

This hall is where the town's trades came together in the Middle Ages to discuss town affairs. As one of England's finest guildhalls, it was chosen to be a jail for Mary Queen of Scots. Stained-glass windows glorify the kings of England; further down the hall, stands WC Marshall's statue of Lady Godiva. Look out for the medieval tapestry depicting Henry VI.

  3. St Michael's Cathedral & Ruins

There is peace among ruins: next to the new St Michael's Cathedral stands the sombre ruins of the original, its tower, spire and outer wall lasting still. Together the two create one cathedral, a memorial of the horrors of WWII; it was gutted in the German air raid of 14 November 1940. The 180 steps of its Gothic spire can be climbed for panoramic views.
