Manial Palace information
This palace was built by the uncle of King Farouk, Prince Mohammed Ali, in the early 20th century, in a mix of Ottoman, Moorish, Persian and European rococo styles. Now a quirky museum, it contains, among other things, Farouk’s hunting trophies and the prince’s collection of medieval manuscripts and clothing. The gardens are planted with rare tropical plants collected by the prince. The museum was closed for restoration in summer 2014.
