ATMs

ATMs are everywhere, especially just outside the Hotel Lisboa, where you’ll find half a dozen. Most allow you to choose between patacas and Hong Kong dollars.

Changing money

The pataca is pegged to the Hong Kong dollar at a rate of MOP$103.20 to HK$100. In effect, the two currencies are interchangeable and Hong Kong dollars, including coins, are accepted here. Chinese renminbi is also accepted in many places at one-to-one, though you can’t spend patacas anywhere else, so use them before you leave.

You can change cash and travellers cheques at the banks lining Avenida da Praia Grande and Avenida de Almeida Ribeiro. Major credit cards are accepted by many businesses.
