Mercado Central information
Lonely Planet review
Gleaming piles of fresh fish and crustaceans atop mounds of sparkling ice thrill foodies, fishers and photographers alike at the Mercado Central, which is bordered by 21 de Mayo, San Pablo, Paseo Puente and Valdés Vergara. Fishmongers compete noisily for customers in one half of the market, while touts for its many seafood restaurants make an equal racket in the other. (For a slightly more authentic dining experience, skip the central restaurants and check out the peripheral seafood eateries that are packed with locals at lunchtime.)
