Frequent buses leave from Bom Despacho’s bus/ferry terminal (3319 2890) for Valença (R$14, two hours, five daily).

Schedules change with the seasons, so verify departure times.

Passenger ferries (R$4, 50 minutes, every 30 minutes from 7am to 6:50pm) leave from Salvador’s Terminal Marítimo Turístico for Mar Grande’s terminal (3633 1248), and return from 6:30am to 7:30pm. Buy your return ticket ahead of time on summer days.

A car ferry (R$7, car R$27, one hour, hourly from 5am to 11:30pm) and a catamaran (R$7, 30 minutes, seven daily) run between Salvador’s Terminal Marítimo de São Joaquim and Bom Despacho. Expect a long wait to drive onto the ferry on weekends, especially in summer.
