Introducing Travnik

With its impressive hillside medieval castle dominating the town and its birthplace association with famous author Ivo Andrić, Travnik is an ideal day trip from Sarajevo or a stop en route to Jajce.

Tucked into a narrow wooded valley only 90km northwest of Sarajevo, Travnik was the seat of Turkish viziers who ruled Bosnia and Hercegovina from 1699 to 1851. The town became an international crossroads, with France and Austria opening embassies here, and their diplomatic lives were the inspiration for Andrić’s The Travnik Chronicles.
