Parlez-vous français? You’ll need to in Wallonia, Belgium’s French-speaking southern half. Step across the linguistic divide to seemingly enter a different country. Gone are the flat fields and affluence of the north – here it’s forested hillsides, intimate villages and industrial decay. Then burrow down in the Ardennes, Wallonia’s southeastern corner, where ancient castles loom over tranquil hamlets.
